Disaster Mapping Expert
The Earth Observatory of Singapore conducts fundamental research on natural hazards. We are seeking a Disaster Mapping Expert to work on rapid and accurate quantification of disasters using remote sensing and space geodesy.
This expert will advance InSAR processing algorithms to optimise change detection capability in Southeast Asia, where SAR analysis is complicated by tropospheric and ionospheric effects, dense vegetation, and soil moisture.
This role involves collaboration with researchers from the 'Integrating Volcano and Earthquake Science and Technology (InVEST) in Southeast Asia' project. This 5-year project aims to provide a holistic understanding of regional tectonics, volcanoes, their linkages, and cascading hazards and impacts in Singapore and Southeast Asia.
Main Responsibilities:- Rapid generation of disaster maps for earthquakes and volcanic activities
- Contributing to an upgraded disaster response support system for more effective response support
- Engagement in collaborative discussions with team members and collaborators
To be successful in this role, you will have a PhD in geophysics, geology, geomatics, geodesy, electrical engineering, computer science, natural hazards, or a related field. You will also have demonstrated skills in remote sensing, image processing, inverse problem, machine learning, as well as expertise in analysing geospatial and geodetic data sets.
A strong background in programming with Python or MATLAB is required. Excellent written and oral communication skills are necessary for stakeholder engagement.

You may also have the opportunity to handle direct communications with satellites and monitor the quality of the communications links.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the maintenance of CRISP systems such as antennas, computers, facilities, etc.
- Support the monitoring of CRISP systems to detect faults quickly.
- Help to troubleshoot and fix faulty equipment and systems.
- When training is successfully completed, participate in the control of satellites.
- Assist in occasional administrative tasks such as stock checks, spares accounting, etc.
- Undergo certification for work-at-height and boom lift operation.
You are required to undergo extensive training before handling complex tasks. Upon completion of the training program, you will be able to perform your duties effectively.
