In this role, you will work as part of an experienced, global underwriting team to originate and underwrite political and credit risks across the Asia region. This role requires an ability to think creatively, be aware of current economic and political issues and demonstrate a strong ability to problem solve. Leveraging AXA XL’s global capabilities and strong balance sheet you will help with the continued growth plans for the Asia business.

What will your essential responsibilities include?

· General business development activities and ongoing relationship management with customers and broker partners across the Asia region, whilst building and maintaining an active pipeline of business opportunities.

· Working with banks, export credit agencies, multilateral development banks, corporate institutions and other non-bank financial institutions to support their credit and political risk insurance requirements across a broad geographic region and covering the full spectrum of risk appetite.

· With a strong focus on emerging markets, the role requires you to apply strong credit and geopolitical analysis skills to identify opportunities where insurance coverage will provide value to our customers for risks that fit within the target risk appetite.

· Actively developing and managing a portfolio of credit and political risk exposures in the region as a sub-set of the global portfolio, working with colleagues to align the risk appetite in Asia to ensure long term profitability and sustainable growth of the business.

· Designing creative and innovative insurance coverage solutions to support customer demands, enabling AXA XL to remain a leading player in the market.

· Be accountable for the various activities with respect to all underwriting decisions made, including operational compliance, effective risk analysis, legal wording review and exposure/aggregate management.

· Contribute to the ongoing growth and development of the wider team (locally and globally) through sharing of experience, coaching and guiding other team members.

· This role may require travel for business purposes across the Asia region.

This role will report to the Underwriting Manager – Political Risk, Credit & Bond, Asia based in Singapore.

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:

· 10 years of relevant experience in the banking or insurance sector (or other financial institution) with a focus on credit and/or political risk analysis. Specific expertise in trade and export finance, project finance or structured credit are also preferred, but not essential.

· Proven ability to build excellent interpersonal relationships with customers and brokers within a diverse geographic region and across various business cultures with a view to developing long term profitable business partnerships.

· Effectively plan and lead sales and business development activities for the team, integrating the use of various techniques, tools, and information to support profitable business growth.

· Strong credit analytical skills with a deep interest in global economic and political affairs.

· Ability to respond to changing market conditions and have strong initiative to capture business opportunities as they arise, and to construct innovative solutions for customers.

· Fundamental working knowledge of all relevant systems such as Microsoft Office and other business platforms used in financial institutions.

· Excellent communication skills and an ability to clearly communicate business strategy, financial outcomes and plans as well as human resource issues to key stakeholders.

· Strong collaboration and teamwork qualities that promote a positive and inclusive working environment amongst the team and other colleagues, and which align with the AXA XL’s core values and culture.
