Position Summary:

OceanX Education seeks an extraordinary leader in the A sia-Pacific region to build and manage its fast growing activity in the region . OceanX Education leverages the OceanXplorer’s cutting edge technology and leading scientific and media experts to inspire and educate the next generation of ocean leaders and problem solvers through ocean exploration, science, storytelling, and media production.

The APAC Regional Executive Director for OceanX Education will expand the organizations reach and activity by building on the educational programming that OceanX has piloted over the last several years, including the on-ship Young Explorer’s Program, livestreaming from the OceanXplorer and other digital programming for learners of all ages, and museum exhibits for public education and engagement. This is an opportunity for a dynamic and creative leader to take a new educational venture to the next level, forge partnerships with other leading organizations in this space, develop impactful relationships with philanthropic, governmental and private donors, and implement a broad-ranging and cross-disciplinary approach to ocean education that incorporates science, engineering, media, art, and cutting-edge technology, including virtual and alternative reality. The APAC Regional Executive Director of OceanX Education will help create the next generation of ocean leaders who will help us to better understand our world’s largest and most unknown resource and solve some of the most pressing climate issues of our time.

Position Location:

It is anticipated that this position will be based in Singapore, will require flexible working hours (for meetings with stakeholders in the United States) as well as some amount of regional travel (e.g., Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand).

Role Responsibilities:

  • Develop and refine strategic vision of OceanX Educationin APAC
  • Work with leadership at Dalio Family Office to build out a regional governance structure and advisory board, and keep the OceanX Education Board and leadership informed about the development and implementation of work at OceanX Education APAC
  • Provide leadership to OceanX Education APAC program team and represent OceanX Education APAC internally to OceanX
  • Develop and build out strategy for APAC educational programming in ocean space
  • Work with OceanX staff and OceanX Education staff to oversee the management, implementation, and growth of existing and newAPAC educational programming
  • Provide strategic level input on the research and development of new institutional and programmatic partners in the region
  • Develop and implement a regional fundraising strategy with the OceanX VP of Partnerships, involving both governmental, NGO, foundation and individual donors
  • Develop and implement a communication and media strategy in the region
  • Manage lean budget and coordinate with accounting and tax support from Dalio Family Office

The ideal candidate will possess the following professional qualifications:

  • At least 15+ years of experience in businesses or nonprofits centered around ocean, climate and/or environmental science, with some experience in the education field preferred
  • Passionate leader with strategic vision for opportunities in ocean education, broadly defined
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and the dynamic atmosphere of a start-up organization
  • Ability to navigate complex organizations and entities with a clear vision of impact-oriented work
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including ability to communicate vision
  • Nimble leader looking to lead a lean, regional team
  • Experience managing education related businesses, including museum management, connected to the oceans, science or the environment strongly preferred

Compensation and Benefits:

Compensation for the role includes a competitive salary (inclusive of a merit-based bonus, dependent on years of experience, level of education obtained, as well as applicable skillset) and an excellent benefits package, including a comprehensive employer paid medical plan and CPF.
