The HEARTwise project is a public-private research initiative funded by Singapore's National Research Foundation, bringing together clinical cardiologists (CADENCE / NUHS, NHCS), engineers from TUM and TUMCREATE, and MedTech partners. The project develops a multimodal platform for non-invasive, early decompensation detection in ambulant HF patients – combining wearable mobility sensing, heart and lung sound recognition, and integration with additional digital biomarker sources.
As a member of the HEARTwise team, you will collaborate within an interdisciplinary consortium comprising leading experts in cardiology, telemedicine, biomedical engineering, acoustics, data privacy, and industry.

Background & Scientific Context
Heart failure (HF) affects 2.5% of Singapore's population and is the leading cardiac cause of hospital admission – presenting a decade earlier and more aggressively than in Europe or North America. The 30% rehospitalization rate within 90 days of discharge is both a major clinical burden and a window of opportunity for early, data-driven intervention.
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled researcher with proven expertise in machine learning for audio analysis. Within HEARTwise at TUMCREATE, you will lead the development of artificial intelligence algorithms for audio classification of heart and lung sounds. Through multimodal integration with data from mobility sensing and other biomarkers, you will create a reliable tool for early decompensation detection in ambulant HF patients. You will be working in a team developing a tool for audio data collection in the clinic, running a clinical study for data collection, working with clinicians to create an annotated database, and validating your classification prototype in a pilot clinical diagnostic study.
This is a fixed-term contract until March 2029 when applicable.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop prototype algorithms for audio classification of heart and lung sounds.
- Contribute to clinical data collection, database building, multimodal data analysis,clinical prototype app development.
- Verify the technology against requirements and validate in a pilot clinical study.
- Collaborate with experts in cardiology, telemedicine, biomedical engineering, acoustics, and data privacy
- Write scientific manuscripts, contribute to project reports, and present findings at international conferences and stakeholder meetings.
Key Competencies
- At least 1 year of proven expertise in deep learning signal analysis,preferably with audio data.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to communicate complex analytical results to multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, international research environment.
Qualification Requirements
- We are seeking a researcher with a PhD degree in electrical engineering,physics, data science, computer science, or similar, and a proven track record in machine learning and (audio) signal processing. Fresh graduates and PhD candidates will also be considered.
- Proficiency in Python/Matlab and anaconda (or similar).
- Experience in C/C++ and database interfacing and in user or clinical studies is desirable.
- Ideally, the candidate has an interdisciplinary education including acoustics that facilitates collaboration with biomedical engineers.

Job Purpose/Objective of the Position:
We are seeking a Research Fellow (PhD holder) / Research Associate (PhD student; Master's degree holder) / Research Engineer to join the QUASAR project, focusing on secure FPGA-based system development and verification using RISC-V platforms.
This role emphasizes RTL design, verification, and system bring-up, and is well-suited for fresh graduates interested in hardware verification, system integration, and open-source hardware platforms.
This is a fixed term contract until March 2029 when applicable.
Job Responsibilities:
FPGA System Bring-up& Validation
- Support the deployment and bring-up of CVA6-based SoC systems on FPGA platforms (Genesys 2)
- Debug system-level issues,including boot flow(bootloader, DRAM initialization, peripheral access) and interface connectivity (UART, SPI,Ethernet, JTAG)
- Validate system functionality through bare-metal programs and OS-level workloads (e.g., Linux, RTOS)
Verification & Debug
- Develop and maintain verification workflows for FPGA-based RISC-V systems: Simulation (e.g., Verilator-based flows) and FPGA-based validation
- Perform functional verification and debugging of RISC-Vcore integration (CVA6), Memory subsystem, interconnect, and peripheral interfaces.
- Analyze and debug issues across abstraction layers: RTL bugs, Integration mismatches, and timing/synthesis-related issues.
Hardware Security Verification and Analysis
- Research, develop and design-time verification methodologies for hardware security features in RISC-V systems
- Evaluate and improve side-channel resistance (e.g., timing, power, and micro architectural leakage)in the context of a post-quantum secure RISC-V processor platform
Tool Flow & Automation Support
- Work with existing FPGA flows (e.g., Vivado-based flows used in CVA6 FPGA implementation)
- Develop scripts (Python/TCL) for building automation, regression testing, and results analysis.
- Support integration with open-source simulation and verification tools
Job Requirements/Competencies:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields
- Strong foundation in digital design (RTL, timing, pipelining)
- Hands-on experience with FPGA design flows
- Familiarity with RISC-V architecture or SoC design
- Programming skills in C/C++ and/or Python
- Exposure to hardware verification methodologies (simulation, testbench design)
- Familiarity with: Linux-based embedded systems and Debugtools (e.g., JTAG, GDB)
- Interest in system-level debugging and cross-layer analysis

Job Responsibilities:
PQC Accelerator Design & Integration
- Design and implement hardware accelerators for post-quantum cryptographic algorithms (e.g., lattice-based,hash-based schemes)
- Perform microarchitectural exploration for: throughput/latency optimization and area and power efficiency trade-offs
- Integrate accelerators into a RISC-V-based SoC (e.g., tightly coupled or via interconnect)
Hardware/Software Co-Design for Secure Systems
- Co-design PQC implementations across: hardware accelerators and Firmware/runtime libraries
- Optimize interaction between: processor pipeline, memory hierarchy, and cryptographic modules
- Support system-level execution(bare-metal / OS-level) for end-to-end validation
Hardware Security &Side-Channel-Aware Design
- Evaluate and enhance side-channel resistance of PQC hardware implementations
- Analyze vulnerabilities such as power/timing leakage and microarchitectural side channels
- Study security-performance trade-offs in hardware implementations
System Integration & Prototype Validation
- Integrate designed components into a full RISC-V system prototype (FPGA or simulation-based)
- Validate functionality using simulation and FPGA-based prototyping (when applicable)
- Collaborate with verification and platform teams to ensure correctness across abstraction layers and smooth transition toward manufacturable ASIC designs
Job Requirements/Competencies:
