Job Description
Description
The Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI) serves as Singapore’s national research institute for ophthalmic and vision research and functions as the research arm of the Singapore National Eye Centre. As part of the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre (AMC), SERI undertakes vision research in collaboration with local and international clinical ophthalmic centres and biomedical research institutions. To date, SERI, together with the Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences Academic Clinical Program (Eye ACP) at Duke-NUS, has developed a world-leading reputation in broad-based clinical translational research and epidemiological programmes for major blinding eye diseases.
The Population Health Research (PHR) Group at SERI conducts patient-centred and clinical health services research in Ophthalmology in Singapore and Asia. We have setup several large clinical and population-based multi-centre collaborative studies to: (a) better understand the pathophysiology of the aging visual and others sensory systems and their interactions with several key outcomes of age-related functional decline, i.e., sarcopenia and frailty; (b) investigate the connection between sensory and cognitive decline, while developing and validating innovative assessment tools to accurately detect cognitive impairment in individuals with sensory loss; and (c) develop and validate novel AI-driven instruments (questionnaires) to comprehensively evaluate quality of life (QoL) in individuals with debilitating ocular and other systemic diseases.
We are inviting suitably qualified candidates for the position of Senior Postdoctoral/Clinical Research Fellow in the PHR group under the direct supervision of Professor Ecosse Lamoureux, Head of the PHR group and Director of the Population Health and Ocular Epidemiology Platform at SERI. This position offers an excellent opportunity for the applicant to undertake outstanding research work at SERI under his mentorship and other capable Clinical Research Fellows. An interest in patient-centred and population health research in sensory diseases, neurosensory loss, and/or the aging population is crucial.
The applicant will be expected to:
- Lead the conceptualization and translation of new ideas into well-written grant applications
- Assist lead PIs in grant writing for large project and/or collaborative grant applications
- Conduct and coordinate research within SERI in line with its research strategy and under the direction and supervision of the principal investigators and collaborators
- Manage the unit’s existing and upcoming research projects in a team-based, cross functional research environment, which includes liaising with fellow colleagues and collaborators, supervising research assistants, research students, technical and other support staff
- Publish research outcomes in appropriate journals of international standing and to publish and disseminate the results of research and scholarship in other reputable outlets
- Attend and present research findings and papers at academic and professional conferences, and to contribute to the external visibility of the department
- Draft research reports for Principal Investigators
- Supervise and mentor younger faculty members
- Undertake such specific roles and management functions as may be reasonably required by the Director
- Attend meetings and to participate (where necessary) in other committees and working groups within SERI/SNEC
- Ensure adherence with health and safety in all aspects of work
The duties and responsibilities outlined are not intended to be an exhaustive list but provide guidance on the main aspects of the job. The incumbent will be required to be flexible in their duties.
